Person 1: my best friend.

1. Who is the most influential person in your life and why?
"Its simple" she said. "my dad." She goes on to describe the rough start that he had in life, dealing with foster system and being taken away from his schizophrenic mother at a young age. He was in and out of different foster homes throughout his whole childhood, by the time he was fourteen he had been two twelve different homes. He felt he had no place to call home, he had no place of his own, he had no direction. When high school comes around he had no care in the world for a future, he did not care about graduating or completing any sort of diploma course so at sixteen he dropped out. He ended up finding part time work at an aerospace job and by eighteen he found something he was passionate about, the only problem was he had no education. One year later he decided to go back to school and finish high school, he got a job with Northrop Grumman which he later turned into a career making six figures a year by being an electrical engineer. She explained to me her dad became the most influential person in her life because of the struggles he overcame, the obstacles he went through to become the successful man he is today.

2. What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought.
The last thing she encountered was when she was at work (she is a personal trainer) working with a new client who had survived twelve spinal surgeries over the course of twenty years. Her client was a professional golfer in his younger years and and due to an injury and an illness he had his surgeries resulting in the fusion of vertebrae in his neck and lower back, extremely limiting his activity. I went on to listen to her explain the story of his life just as she had listened to him and she realized that the fact that he still was wanting to be active, even after everything he had gone through he still wanted to be active, and increase his level of fitness was amazing to her. He really made her think about all the things in life that she takes for granted even just sitting for long periods of time without any kind of pain, gave her a much deeper sense of appreciation for how blessed she truly is and helped her gain an appreciation for what this man is aspiring to do.

3. What or who is the most important thing in your life and why?
Graduating from college is the most important thing in her life. She is the youngest of four children and the very first to be going to college. Neither of her parents went to a university or let alone a college so she feels a deep sense of ambition when it comes to completing her degree. It is important to her to prove to her family she can do this for them and to prove she will be something one day.

Person 2: my coworker.

  • Who is the most influential person in your life and why?
  • Her daughter. Becoming a young mom changed her life in the middle of her college career. She was nineteen and in the middle of her second year at UC Merced up north when she found out she was pregnant. She explained to me her life changed from that moment on because she knew it was not just her anymore. Her daughter is the most important person in her life because she gave her the push she needed to complete her degree so she can give her the best life she deserves.

    2. What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought.
The defining moment that helped change her values was the day she was hit in the face the very first time by her husband. I was in complete shock when she was explaining to me the abuse she had been encountering for years now. She said as time went on it was easier and easier to just live with because she had grown so accustomed to the every day violence it became a normal occurrence for her. She said her realization kind of snuck up on her one morning while she was watch Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, she realized she was worth more than that, she realized she could live in peace and not suffering, it was that day she packed up her bags and her daughters and they left without looking back.

    3. What or who is the most important thing in your life and why?
Happiness. She gave me one word for this answer and explained to me that after everything she had gone through the past couple of years that happiness was the most important thing in her life. She told me happiness is something that comes from within and every single person deserves happiness. Everyone has their own happiness. She explained to me her daughter's happiness was her happiness. No matter what she goes through she realizes that daughter has been the constant thing in her life that brings her joy even on her darkest days and because of her daughter she will forever have the happiness she deserves.

The first person I choose to interview was my mom, she told me that the most influential person in jer life was her great grandmother. She choose her because she had moral fiber and she taught her how to care for others. The experience that changed my mothers values was 9/11 she choose this event because it changed the way she looke at her safety for herself and her children. The most important thing in her life is her children because they are her everything and they taught her how to have patience and compassion.

The second person I interviewed was my older sister, the most influential person in her life was her grandmother as well she choose her because she taught her everything and she said most importantly forgiveness. The experience that changed my sisters values was when she became an older sister to twins, she said ahe was forced to watch everything she did around us because she wanted to be a good example for my brother and I. The most important thing in life to my sister is her family she choose family because they are the ones who shape you into the person you will become.

    1. Who is the most influential person in your life and why?

The  most influential person in my life would have to be my mom because she had to play both roles while raising my older sister and I. She came into this country as a hardworking immigrant not knowing how to speak any English, yet she's worked two jobs till this day just to make ends meet and put food on the table and the clothes on my back. She has an incredible work ethic and that is something you cannot teach. I am truly grateful that she's my mother.

    2. What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought.

I remember the time when I was in the 11th grade, I stayed behind to talk to my teacher Mr. Morales about a paper that was due. I don't recall how, but we somehow got to discussing the pros and cons of growing up in South Central. He told me something that I'll never forget. He said," Do not think of growing up in South Central as a disadvantage, you're already at the bottom so you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Think of it as an opportunity to build yourself up from nothing and pass what you have built on to future generations". I'm truly inspired by his philosophy.

    3. What or who is the most important thing in your life and why?

The most important thing in my life is family. When I say family I also mean friends because y'all basically family to me. we act like a family, take care of each other like a family and support one another like family. Without my family I'd be so lost, but I believe that I'm truly blessed to have each and every one of you in my life. Y'all let me know when I'm fucking up while others just stand by and watch what happens next. I know that I'll always be able to count on y'all.

    1. Who is the most influential person in your life and why?

I'd have to say my mom because she's always inspired me to do better and be the best that I can be, even if my job was being a bag-boy for a supermarket she'd tell me," you'd better be the best fucking bag-boy there is". She's always motivated me to strive for higher goals. Yeah she sometimes puts me under a lot of pressure but I know she does it only because she didn't have anyone to support her and her dreams. I understand that she wants what's best for me and I made her a promise that when I make it out this hood, best believe I'm taking you with me. That's my momma.

2, What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought.

Something that I read that made me reconsider my beliefs was "The Great Gatsby" by Scott F. Fitzgerald. Upon finishing the fascinating novel I realized that things are not always what they seemed to be. I took this thought and applied it to the police that "Serve" my neighborhood. You see, I always thought that policemen were supposed to protect and serve our community as well as make the residents feel safe. That's just it, I've never once felt safe being around the police. I've always felt threatened and discriminated. I can recall back to the time I watched my 16 year-old cousin being dropped and aggressively arrested because he lived on a certain block that was run by the drug cartel. He was sent to the hospital with a spinal cord injury. The drop he endured was so severe that the policemen fractured his vertebrae leaving him paralyzed from the lower back down to his feet. He never walked again after. I remember my family crying harshly over the incident and could not believe how expensive the medical bill was. The police took away my cousins ability to walk and left his family drowning in debt from the medical bills, yet they wonder why we scream "Fuck the Police".

    3. What or who is the most important thing in your life and why?

I believe that family and my boys are the most important in my life. You guys come first no matter what. I really enjoy the memories that we've made so far and cannot wait for more to come. My family and my friends are my motivators. Y'all shown me love that only a family can show, that's why I've got mad love for all of you. Y'all was there for me in my times of need, so you know I'm going to take ya'll with me when I succeed.

    1. You are the most influential person in my life. There's a lot of reasons why you're the most influential person. In the past I made really dumb decisions and stuff because no one really told me their opinion, they just went a long with what I said, but now that I have you, you make me look at things differently. Your opinions have helped me a lot in my life.

    2. In Facebook, I follow this guy name Cesar Lozano. Cesar inspires people in so many ways with his strong sayings. One of his quotes that really reached out to me is ," Para querer a alguien primero te tienes que querer a ti mismo." I never really thought of it, like I said I made a lot of dumb decisions in my past and one of them was marrying your dad and I wasn't even in love with myself at that time. So I think that's one of reasons why we went got divorce.

    3. My kids are the most important things in my life because right now that we're by ourselves it's my responsibility to keep pushing you guys in life and to do any possible for you guys not to go to the wrong direction in life.

    1. My wife is the most influential person in my life. She's not here with me right now, but I'll always be a good boy without her. My wife helped me through a lot of things in life. She helped me become a better human being, get out of drugs, care for other people, and most importantly to love myself. Without her help, I don't think I would be here answering your questions.

    2. You know how much I'm into science. Remember mijita, when the aliens came to Earth and just stroked a light in the sky, so everybody can see it. Ever since that day, my beliefs about aliens have become stronger, I know they exist.

    3. My family is very important to me. Every time I see my daughters they remind me so much of my beautiful wife. My family brings me a lot of happiness. My family has made me a stronger person.

    1. Who is the most influential person in your life and why?

Both of my parents definitely. I grew up the youngest of 5 siblings I was raised in a one bedroom house with 8 family members. My parents came to this country with nothing but clothes on their backs and hopes in their souls. In hopes that my siblings and I would have a better chance at success, they wanted a better life for us. We sure as hell got that.  My parents had a life of labor and a minimum wage their entire life they worked hard in order for us to get a shot at having a higher education and climbing up the social economic ladder. Why I look up to them is their work ethic. Both of my parents were willing to starve so I can have a box a pizza that’s a metaphor. 5 children one grandson and for 25 years they saved to put all of us first and no matter how hard things got we were together. To me they’re an example of the American dream not knowing English speaking Spanish, working hard to purchase a property with no white collar job, and eventually they saved up and bought their first home.  Two years later being able to buy another property was incredible. They faced discrimination, language barriers, but the greatest challenge was setting aside personal happiness to give us a better life. That just shows how much they truly show they care about us.

    2. What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought.

What’s truly hurting my beliefs and values is one party in general, the Republican Party. It’s upsetting me that they are promoting so much hatred. We have a major party with millions of supporters that are basically spreading hatred towards immigrants. I definitely feel conflicted. Their hatred toward the Muslim community, hatred towards nature, and multi minorities in general is really conflicting with my beliefs.  A major party promoting such hatred has made me question my love for politics. Do I really want to become part of this system? One day I want to serve as a public servant or politician so it affects me personally that people are celebrating or rallying to support hatred. It made this fire in me to question my beliefs and to ultimately make a difference to stop this systematic hatred.

    3. What or who is the most important thing in your life and why?

My future is the most important thing in my life I think about it every single day. It’s so important because I know that everything that I do now will ultimately shape it. One day I plan to climb the social economic ladder to carry on the torch that my parents passed on to me. The way that my parents passed down the torch to me I want to pass down the same torch to my children with an even hotter and brighter future.

    1. Who is the most influential person in your life and why?

My mom is the most influential, because just seeing the struggle she goes through makes me realize that with any issue I come across there will always be better days. She gives me strength to keep on going. She motivates me to keep on going in life no matter how hard things get.

    2. What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought.

I attended a personal building exercise and that really opened my eyes.  I learned that anything is a matter of choice and it basically all depends on you. It has to do a lot with your responsibility, and how that really affects if you do things or not. It made a big change in my life and it gave me a different perspective on life.

    3. What or who is the most important thing in your life and why?

My happiness is the most important thing in my life because everyone deserves to be happy no matter what. Whatever situation you’re in you deserve happiness.

    3. What or who is the most important thing in your life and why?

    Friend's response:
1.He finds his dad the most influential person in his life because he started with nothing living in a third world country. He came to USA at age 17 and worked his way up. He would walk to work and school with plastic bags on his feet. From that he sees that there is no excuse to not getting things done. Everyday he tries to 1-up himself to reach to his father's level.
    2. Read a paper at work saying that you should always be active and if you have nothing to do find something. After reading he thought about pushing himself to the limit to get results and went back to work.
    3. Family (considers close friends family as well) they are the only people that motivate and keep him on his feet.

    Friend of a friend's response:
    1. Myself, because I use different personas in different settings and situations for example I use my subconscious to tell myself stop being an imbecile. I am self sufficient, I do not like to rely on anyone.
    2.  Do not recall on anything that has made me reconsider my values or beliefs. I do not change them but add to them.
    3. In terms of what it would be my drive because I put the greater motive in things. For example right now I could be working at retail right now enjoying my young adulthood and have my own apartment, but I would be making around 30,000 with only 5,000 to spend on whatever. It would not benefit me or the people I want to help through some meager job but from attending college, internships and other things. Gaining wealth and power not to be self centered but to help others like third world countries. I had to reinvent my dreams but it is worth it.

    1. Who is the most influential person in your life and why? The most influential person in my life is my dad.Since I was a kid my dad has had a strong influence on me. My dad has had a huge impact in my life he has taught me many valuable things from life lessons to working in construction. The one thing I remember the most is something he told me a few years ago" If you're friends aren't there for you in the hard times when you need them they're not true friends.
    2. What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought.  A video on twitter were two racist white men beat up a homeless man. I thought to myself why would they do that to a old defenseless man. He didn't do anything to them he was sleeping. Then one of them pee'd on the homeless man which got me so upset. It made me think about society and how we're slowly losing our faith in humanity. I'ts rare when someone does something nice for one another it just shows we as people are changing we are no longer are what we once were.
    3.  What or who is the most important thing in your life and why? The most important in my life is my girlfriend Paulina. I've never meet a girl like her she's such an amazing person to be with we always find a way to have fun. The connection we have is so strong it's crazy especially how we've only been together for 1 year  & 2 months we read each other like a book.Best of all she's always there for me in my  times of need she has never turned her back on me she makes me feel so loved.

    My boyfriend's responses:

    1. The most influential person in his life is his dad, because he is the person who sparked his (extreme) interest in sports and coached him in most of those sports too.

    2. The last thing that he has heard that made him rethink his beliefs was a conversation with me about politics. For example I am pro choice and he is pro life, and I made some points that made him think that it makes sense in some situations why I person might decide to abort their pregnancy.

    3. The most important person in his life is his sister, because she is his only sibling and she is very smart and sometimes surprises him with her creativity for helping other people. For example one of the greatest memories he has of her using her creativity to benefit others was when she made bracelets to sell for their little cousin Julianna who had been fighting cancer at the time and she collected the money she had off the bracelets to send to her little cousin.

    My mom's responses:

    1. The most influential person in her is her mom, because she was the first woman who my mother saw to have a strong feminine role, especially in the household. Even though her mother was not the "bread-maker", she was more or less the "man of the house" because she was the person with all the power in their house.

    2. My mom cannot recall the last thing that made her reconsider her beliefs or values, but she reconsidered her values when raising me because she was brought up in a household with very strict rules and creating a lot of conflict in her relationship with her parents. So, even though she wants to do everything possible to protect me at all costs, she was readjusted her values and beliefs to keep from history repeating itself.

    3. As her only daughter, my mom evidently answered with a simple, "you." She tired to put in words her maternal instinct and stated that it's because I am her daughter, she has raised me and protected me all my life and will keep protecting me until the end of her's. Lastly she stated, "You are my life."

    Boyfriend:

    1. Who is the most influential person in your life and why?                                                                               "That would be my grandmother. She has been through a lot of hardships similar to mine so I can relate to her on a different level.  She has always been someone I could talk to or go to for advice. She will always be up front with me. I know she truly cares about my well being."
    2. What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought.                                                                                 "My Uncle tricked my elderly grandmother into co-signing a brand new vehicle for him. She felt ambushed and obligated to do something she really didn't want to. To add to the situation he then stole jewelry form her home. It was at this point that made me rethink other people's family values and my own. Just because someone my be your family does not mean they will treat you with the respect that you deserve. Family is supposed respect and love one another unconditionally but I cannot feel that way towards someone that hurts the ones I love, even if they are my so called family."
    3.  What or who is the most important thing in your life and why?                                                                       "My grandparents. They took me in at six months old and raised me. They essentially saved my life. Basically they raised me as their own son. They were both sick and older when they took me in when no one else wanted me, that is something I could never repay them for. In return I feel it's my job to look out for them as they get older. With all of my life decisions I take them into consideration."
    Sister:
    1. Who is the most influential person in your life and why?
"It was my grandmother because she was the one that raised me. My grandmother taught me right from wrong. She taught me how to respect others and respect myself. I learned to live day by day and not to worry about the future too much, which was something that I have always applied in my life. I always felt love from her no matter what, even when I was in trouble. I will always admire her."

    2. What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs?       Describe that moment and what you thought.
"The one thing that has impacted me as of recent is how politically corrupt our country is. Since the new elections are just around the corner, I have become more aware of how uninformed I am. I am always the first to complain but the last to take action. I am not happy with our healthcare, educations system, environmental choices, and the amount of discrimination in our country. I am trying to get more involved and do my research, that way I would be one more person that can help make the proper change we need."

    3. What or who is the most important thing in your life and why?
"My husband, Marcelo, is the most important person in my life. He is my best friend, the person I do everything with. In the ten years of being together, we have learned to grow separately and as a couple. Together we built our careers and home. We have taught and continue to teach each other many things. Whenever I feel stressed I can look at him and immediately feel a sense of relief. The connection we have is something to cherish. I can't say it is a perfect relationship but, to me my husband is my home."

When asked the general question on who or what was the biggest influence my friend Jasmine and my mother's answers seem to intertwine. They are completely different women with a similar goal; the care and love for their kids. Asking Jasmine what was her most influential person in her life she answered with her dance teacher. She realized that her dance teacher had the integrity and drive of a woman she actually wanted to be. She was not only an instructor but a student, a person who had as much homework as Jasmine but still handled stressful times with the gracefulness of someone who has their shit together. This was inspiring to Jasmine because she is a teen mom, she felt her life was over and all she had was to be only a mom. But, she realized that she can be a mom, a student, a lover, a sister and still realize that all things are temporary. Your life doesn't end with a child, it begins. Being a teen mom is something that is life changing and it's hard to come to terms with an actual little human came from your uterus; Jasmine had a set belief that there will still be partying and a "young" life. But, a letter posted on the Web caught Jasmine's eye and made her think. It basically told her that your life has changed, no more partying, no more doing all the fun things that "kids" do. You made an adult action so you will be an adult and give that child the best life they can get. That means, grinding and getting an education, having restless nights, so they can have restful nights and that time will come when you did party and missed important moments you could've seen by just doing your job. She follows this daily and realized that it's easy to be uneducated but she wants to show him the beauty of knowledge. Of course her son Anthony is the most important person in her life, he makes her better and he will never know that. When she heard his first cries she realized that there is purpose in this life and he is her world. Jasmine was basically crying, telling me the story of his birth and how they made eye-contact and she knew. She was instantly in-love.

My mother answered with a same concept; my mom was in the 12-step program 10 years ago and became wiser and more attuned to people around her. She was influenced by her counselor named Lynnette. She was this tough lady and yet again she had her shit together. Even though being an alcoholic came in the path of Lynnette's life, she realized it was never to late to change and become a better you, and find the true you that has been lost all these years. This gave my mom a clear vision of who she wanted to be, she wanted to be a person I, her daughter, can look up to a be influenced by like Lynnette did for her. My mom was greatly influenced by this little book given called The Four Agreements that was given to her by Lynnette. It states simple facts that humans have a hard time coming to terms with. It made her realize that in this universe, in this solar system, and in this planet she will never have the power to control other humans. There will be times people are assholes, you don't have to accept it, but you can wish them well and hope that the universe doesn't turn against them. Others people's problems are not yours and it's okay to not be involved. She uses this nearly everyday and it really helps to know these simple truths are what make her an awesome human. My mom told me I am the most important person in her life and of course I was surprised. I mean... I'm just me, ya know. She told me a story of the time I was 8 or 9 and she was leaving the house and I was watching her leave. She looked back and paused for a second, nothing but love, gratefulness, and pride entered her body and it made her realize she wanted/needed to be a better person for me. That resulted in her long process of being in the program. Ten years later she's my best friend. I understand why she did it; growing up you hope the adult at least have their life together and it did give a sense of security and respect as I was getting older. Glad to know I was the main reason for her betterment, because she's awesome!

    1.  Who is the most influential person in your life and why?

The most influential person in my life is my grandpa because he has done a lot for the family, and is very wise. He has been our father figure in our household and is always there for the family. He has shown me how to be loving and supportive in everything.

    2. What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought.

Something I've heard that made me reconsider my values is a song by Lauryn Hill called "doo wop". This song really made me realize my worth and taught me not to be a hard rock when you really are a gem. I think all women need to know their worth and not let someone belittle them.

    1.  Who is the most influential person in your life and why?

My mom is the most influential person in my life because I look at her as a strong woman because of the tough things she went through in the past. She always wants her kids to be happy and has the best interest in us.

    2. What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought.

I saw a Tupac interview were he was talking about how it doesn't make sense how a person has so much unnecessary stuff and some people don't have anything. It made me sad to think I've been giving to much time on worrying about my old problems that aren't a big deal, when there are  bigger problems in the world.

    3. What or who is the most important thing in your life and why?

My mom is my most important thing in my life because she brought me into this world. I wouldn't have anything If it wasn't for her. She has taught me so many valuable things I will forever be thankful for.

    1. Who is the most influential person in your life and why?
The most influential person in my life has to be my mother because I admire her strength and the way she views life. She constantly influences me to become a much better person and to remain strong despite the circumstances.

    2. What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought.
A couple of days ago I finally saw the video "Formation" by Beyoncé. As a girl of color, I felt deeply connected to it, but because I am not an African American girl it helped me see the beauty in their culture. I watched it multiple times because I just loved it that much. I thought of all the injustices African Americans face because of their skin color, hair texture, etc. although I have always accepted this culture, I just appreciate it way more now and I believe it's important to have celebrities empower people in this form.

    3. What or who is the most important thing in your life and why?
My family is extremely important to me. I'm so family oriented because they're people I just enjoy being around. They bring happiness and laughter and they're people I can always count on for anything.

    1. Who is the most influential person in your life and why?
The most influential person in my life would be my mother. She brought my two sisters and I at a young age from the Philippines and raised us all by herself because my dad had to stay behind. Her willingness to raise us without much help took a lot of strength and sacrifice. We all stayed at my grandmothers house until we were finally able to afford moving out. We shared one room amongst us 4 and now we currently live in a house where we each have our own rooms. My moms drive to get us all to a better place is why she has influenced me the most.

    2. What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought.
These past few months I've been analyzing Kobe Bryant's games very closely. I've always followed him but since this is his last year I've made sure to not miss a game. Many of his opponents in these past years never really showed respect for the guy until now and that to me shows how long he has come. His true work ethic and discipline has made him the person he is today. Also, all the extra time he takes to perfect his craft is one of the many reasons why he is so great at what he does. He has really inspired me to want to pursue all my dreams and give it all I have.

    3. What or who is the most important thing in your life and why?
Hard work is the most important thing in my life to me because without it one would not be able to get from point a to point b. I value hard work because it shows how much you really value something.

    Brother:
    1. Who is the most influential person in your life and why?
The most influential person in my life is my dad, he's influential to me because he has worked so hard all his life to achieve the things he has now. He's always been there for me and reminds me that I need to work hard to achieve the things I want. He also teaches me that I need a good education, so I won't have to work a hard job like him.
    2. What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought.
The last thing I encountered was a friend of mine passing at an early age. This made me realize how short life can be. It changed my beliefs of life by showing me that we can go any day, so now I try to live life to the fullest.
    3. What or who is the most important thing in your life and why?
Basketball is the most important thing is my life. It's my get away from life. It's the thing that motivates me to do well in life and to keep on practicing so I can get to the place I want to be in life. I can play the game for hours and forget about everything. I loved it ever since I was young. I continue to practice and to play as hard as I can, hoping to be up with the best one day.

    Cousin:
    1. Who is the most influential person in your life and why?
The person who has influenced me the most is my mom. She grew up with a tough early life, but she kept working hard with her siblings to get where they are now. She teaches me the values in life and lets me go my own path to where I can be successful and happy. She has always been there for me through thick and thin, and she continues to work hard to support my brothers and I.
    2. What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought.
I haven't encountered, heard, or read anything that has changed my beliefs, but I've noticed I have been missing something in my life. I felt like I wasn't taking enough risks in my life. I guess I encountered that one of my good friends dropped out of college and started producing music and actually got somewhere with it. I want to be able to take risks like that, I'm not saying I want to drop out, but I feel like I need to take more risks and do something that makes me more happy has a person.
    3. What or who is the most important thing in your life and why?
The most important thing in my life right now is probably finishing off college within this year. It's the door that is between me and the real world. I need to open this door so I can finally walk my own path by myself. I'm so excited to see what's next for me, I'm so glad that I'm finishing college this year.

                     Neighbor:

    1) Who is the most influential person in your life and why?
My parents are the most influential because everything I have learned from them have made me who I am. They have taught me values, morals , and beliefs.

    2) What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought.
I was talking to a coworker and she mentioned her friend came to her for advice about what to do because she just found out she was pregnant. Her friend came to her struggling to decide whether or not to keep the baby. I asked her "what did you tell her?", she replied "keep the baby, babies are cute". I am pro-life but after hearing her reasoning for keeping the baby I've realized not every baby should be brought into the world. If someone is not ready to love their child no matter what the circumstance may be like a certain illness, transgender, or gay/lesbian they should not have kids. If a mother is not capable physically or mentally to raise a child they should not bring one to the world.

    3) What or who is the most important thing in your life and why?
My family is the most important because everything I do I do to make them proud of me. I truly appreciate every effort and sacrifice they have made to make sure we have everything we need.

                  Cousin:
    1) Who is the most influential person in your life and why?
My dad is the most influential person. He has struggled to support my family. He tries his best to always give us the best he can. My dad works many hours and he still finds time to talk about our day. He has taught right from wrong, but most importantly to always thank God for what he has given us.

    2) What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought.
I use to believe that racism was finally fading away because it wasn't really seen or heard of here. Until I heard Trump and his ideas/beliefs. It's scary to think that there are many people who are still convinced that one person is better then the next one because of their skin color. It's scary that he has many people supporting him and his ideas. Because they have always thought that way but now they have someone with power that is pretty much being their voice, someone who will back them up. I feel disgusted when I think that a person will torture and even kill someone else just because of their skin color.

    3) What or who is the most important thing in your life and why?
My parents are most important to me. Because of them I am motivated to do better and be better in life. They motivate me to focus on what i most want to do.

    Uncle:

    1. The most influential person in my life is my husband.  He is influential because he is my partner in life and he is also my center, my conscience, my touchstone. As I deal with work and it's pressures, the bills, family, he is the one person who knows me. The good stuff, the bad stuff and all in between and it is okay. As we talk over our lives, he is the one I turn to for advice, look to for inspiration and measure my successes and failures.

    2. Watching the last republican presidential debate was the last time I really thought over my values and beliefs.  Watching the candidates talk about immigration, LGBT rights, the American place in the world and their positions on the country made me more sure of my values and beliefs.  I was hurt that those seeking the presidency would passionately describe a stronger America that will only be so by taking away my marriage.  That their God demands my pain.  They advocate removing hard working people (that don’t look like them) that want a better life and take away healthcare from those that did not have it before.  I realized that I must not move away from this political season and must work to see that their vision does not become the future.

    3. As I have aged, it has become clear that the most important thing in my life is my family.  Not ambition, not wealth, but family.  I am blessed to have all my immediate family close to me.  This became very clear with the passing of my mother.  My husband, my son, his wife, our two grandchildren, my sister and my nieces.  They are the center of my life and it's purpose.  Work is important and I love mine, but the joy in seeing my nieces grow up and become beautiful, interesting and strong women, seeing my son be a father to his daughters, spending time building a sandcastle on the beach with my grand daughter and spending time on the couch with my husband and our crazy dogs laughing at a silly TV show is the best part of my life.

    Mom:

    1. Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing, has been an influential person in my life. She had a big influence and impact in my choices of my career path and I would not be where I am today, as a registered nurse, if it weren't for her. Florence made nursing a profession by establishing the first nursing school, helped reform healthcare, helped abolish prostitution laws, and also helped expand the work force for women.

    2. In 2008, my daughters and I were over at my mom's house watching the election between Barack Obama and John McCain. It was incredible witnessing the election of the first African American president, seeing how far we have come and being a part of history!

    3. My small family may be loud and annoying at times, but I wouldn't be who I am without any of them.

Hey Rosebud can I ask you a few questions? "Yeah, sure why not I guess." This kid is the best part of me, my other half I'm kind of interested in picking her brain. Who is the most influential person in your life and why? "Wait, what does that mean"? Look it up, of course that's always my answer to her when she doesn't understand something. "Alright, alright. Well you are mom." Why? "Well because you keep me alive and you do everything, you even went back to school and you do it all by yourself. You know without dad or anyone." What do you think, kissing up to me or being truthful? I'm going to take it as truth. Second question. What was the last thing you read, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? "Geeze long enough question? Well I have always believed in God, because you taught me to, but I have always kind of wondered. Well i had a dream that God and grandma were sitting with me and God told me that He loved me. In don't know, made me see Him as real." Her eyes looked to the table. She has always been a tough kid and a huge smart ass and this soft side I really don't see that often its nice. Actually I'm just thrilled that she has these emotions! Last question, who or what is the most important thing in your life and why? " You of course!" Why? "Well your my mom. I don't know. I guess I don't know what I would do without you. Your my best friend, I don't ever want to lose you." What innocent answers. I'm curious to ask someone older to see the difference.
My long time family friend, can I possibly ask you a few questions? Who is the most influential person in your life and why? "At this point in my life its hard to point to just one person, but I'd have to choose my father." Really? Why? "Even though he was only in my life for a limited amount of years. I have respect for him." His eyes seem distant, lost and sad. " He came here from a foreign land with a third grade education, didn't speak this language but knew how to work hard. He taught me how to adapt to life and persevere. He taught me how to put my family first." He seems like a hard working man. "He was." What is the last thing you read, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs. Describe that moment and what you thought. "My brother died a few years ago and i learned that your time and life is limited and you need to value each moment as though it is your last." Who or what is the most important thing in your life and why? "Family. My kids and grandkids." Funny the mention of his grandkids actually makes him glow a little bit. I have learned that the older you get the more you draw from your past, whereas the younger you are you pull from whats right in front of you.

    1. Who is the most influential person in your life and why?
Answer: My teacher because he/she helps me learn and teaches me the things I need to know. Also she/he helps me with questions I might have or if I don't understand something in class.
    2. What is the last thing your read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? (Describe that moment and what you thought).

    3. What or who is the most important thing in your life and why?
Answer: My house, because  I could live in it, and it provides me with safety. I always look forward to somewhere where I could lay my head at night. And also being safe during any weather of the season.

    Person#2 (friend)
    1. Who is the most influential person in your life and why?
Answer: The most influential person in my life is my dad because  after he came in my life when I turned  14 we committed to going to church together. He also pushes me to be a person that will succeed in life and to do well in school because I only got one chance to do well in school and have a career that I will be happy for the rest of my life.
    2. What is the last thing you read, heard, saw,or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? (Describe that moment and what you thought).
Answer: The last thing I read that made me reconsider my values was the bible. I was reading what depicts how Jesus died for the things we do that are considered sins. It made me feel so inspired  to live a better live knowing that someone else died ,so I could have a better life and have a chance to live it better too.
    3. What or who is the most important thing in your life?
Answer: The most important thing in my life is to be an example for others. Considering that I am young I know that younger people need role models in their life because when we as younger people look at old people we always say that they love a better life because  they know what life is all about.

    Blogger #1 Questions completed

    1. Who is the most influential person in your life and why? My Father. Everything that he has done influences my future, which inspires me to do the same for my children in there future. He teaches me the right from the wrong by telling me what is right and what is not. Every piece of disciple teaches me not to make the same mistakes again. (Nephew)

    2. What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought. The book "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry." The fact that slaves had nothing to appreciate, except the time they had to spare with their family. Making me realize that material things aren't as important as I thought. Showing that family is the only thing that will be there for you in your darkest times. (Nephew)

    3.  What or who is the most important thing in your life and why? My parents, as they taught me everything they knew, and I would never want to disappoint them, as I only want them to be proud of me. They show me different ways on learning knew things. They gave me so much and they're still giving me more. I don't want to make them regret all the things they done for me. (Nephew)

    1. Who is the most influential person in your life and why? I don't really have someone that influenced my life. I could say my parents, but thats too cliche. I've done mostly everything on my own. I didn't really have someone that motivated me either. I guess I would say myself.  Leo(Cousin)

    2. What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought. Last thing that made me reconsider my values or beliefs was a video of George Carlin. George is a comedian that past away, but what he talked about the most in his stand up was things that either bothered him or thought was irrelevant. He talked about people, what people did or do, things that annoyed him, religion, etc. Many people agreed with him and many other disagreed as well. One thing a lot of people didn't like about what he made fun of was religion. He made fun of the existence of "God" and what he supposedly made. He pointed out that an invisible man that lives in the sky (God) made rules and if you break any of those rules he'll send you to hell, but he loves you? What he said changed what I thought. Now I still have my beliefs on religion, but I also still have my doubts on it. Many of my friends are religious and it doesn't bother me because I respect on what they believe and they respect what I believe as well. We just see things a bit differently. Leo (Cousin)

    3.  What or who is the most important thing in your life and why? Music. Music is important to my life. I make it myself, so why wouldn't it be, right? It changes who I am in so many ways. Without music where would we all be? We'll probably go insane without it. Music can change peoples lives and change there opinions on things. You can dance, cry, be alone, sing out loud with music. Nobody should judge other people for what they hear because that is the thing that is making them go through the day. Leo (Cousin)
