Decisions are what change our lives but having events where you had no choice could make a big difference in someone’s life. Four years back  my life had a drastic change. Since I grew up with no parents because my dad came to the united state before I was born and my mom came here when I was about to turn five. I had to grow up with my grandma and bouncing back and forward between my aunt’s and uncle’s houses. I had to grew up by myself at least that how it felt. Every week, every month I had to leave to a different house. I had no choice because that is how it had to be. My parents were not there; my family was there just to make sure I ate, went to school, did not get sick. For nine years none asked how I felt, what I wanted, or if I was okay. My family was just there to make sure I was alive.

1-) The idea that expressed using words tells us that we use tone, the way we say or write things, to make our point on what we are trying to share with the audience.
2-) The idea that is expressed using an image is the same as the tone. in this case we use visual imagine to male our point.
3-) I think images and words express the same thing because they both will share the message to the audience.

With our group in breach of our contract, we were forced to go our separate ways. I am blessed and happy with my life now and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I express myself and my love for God through music every single Sunday at church happily. I have two beautiful boys that admirably watch me on that alter every Sunday and I wouldn’t take anything back if I could. Thank you Jesus.

Writing Identities

Issue 3 Pg 119

This scene is definitely visual. I can see each costume they describe and the atmosphere each character is in. The writer does a great job of using detailed examples to get her point across. The words the writer is using and the mood the writing sets perfectly matches the visual image.

Part 1

1.) It's 5:30 in the morning. Sun is barely rising from the horizon. The birds are still sleeping in their nests. Momma is in the bathroom getting ready to go to work for the first time in like 10 years. Siblings are still sleeping like babies in one bed and I worried about taking care of my siblings for the first time ever.

2.) It's 5:30 in the morning.
Sun is barley rising from the horizon.
The birds are still sleeping in their nests.
Momma is in the bathroom getting ready to go to work for the first time ever in like 10 years.
Siblings are still sleeping like babies in one bed.
And there's me worried about taking care of my siblings for the first time ever.

Part 2

1.) Idea expressed using words: "Several publishing scandals have involved people pretending to be someone they were not.
2.) Idea expressed using image: "The public was so angry about hoaxes like these that some publishers refunded customers' money.
3.) I honestly think that both words and image show the same amount of meaning to an audience.

Original - Out the gate I put on my earphones and debating on what should I hear. “Rock? Hip Hop? Indie Rock? I’ll just shuffle them around.” Walking down my street and having my music on full blast. Sadly, I can hear every dog barking at me. I don’t know why they bark at me, they see me every god damn day. House after house and every house has one or two annoying dogs that bark at everyone. I always take the same route to the metro station and I always see the same people, which I find very weird. The people by the liquor store are always looking at me as if I’m their worst enemy, yet they know who I am. They nod their head at me and I nod back and they ask if I have some spare change, which I do but it was for me. So I say “Nah man, I’m broke.” Every street corner curve are cracked and broken down. Trash all over the sidewalks and streets, but I like going through the nice streets. They have nice clean, cut grass and every corner curve look brand new. I mostly know every gang and crew around my neighborhood, and I know not to mess with them. Even if I have family members from those gangs. Yeah, I can tell them to have my back, but that’s like being in gang. I don’t want to be a part of something that can get me killed. Finally, I’m at the metro station.

Part 2 :
1. The idea of using words is making your words or sentence to somehow change the way you're speaking to the reader. Also, making the reader make comments can help you as a writer and improve your style of writing.
2. The idea of expressed using an image is showing how the way the character is shown. If they show no emotion with a loud captions, then the reader won't know how to take it in. Having the right image or expression can change the mood of the reader and they read it.
The images and words do express the same thing. They show the characters emotion as they talk. The facial expression is the main purpose on how to read the caption. Without the expressions, some readers could be reader the story or caption in the wrong way.

Part 1:

Growing up in a full house with 5 children running around, visitors coming to visit every now and then, never really having privacy because either my room was the living room, or I had to share it with siblings. I never felt so alone in my house because I had a big family and people were always all over the place. Especially since I was living in an apartment where there were noisy neighbors and kids running everywhere feeling so free, wasting water, getting wet outside with the water hose, trying to dodge the water balloons that were being thrown our way. Growing up I lived with my sick mother, which explains why I always had visitors in my house. I was young and never thought about life yet.  I still didn’t know how I got to this world and how easy it is to leave from it. I was a little girl with no worries… yeah those were the good old days. While all the adults had major problems to deal with. My only problem was thinking how I can I ditch school the following day, and I was barely in elementary school.

Part 2:
Writing identities the scene where the super hero is explaing the different types of identities by the clothes we wear. In words, it is explaining how clothes represent us. For example, if someone wears a tuxedo it makes them look professional. Also wearing a shirt from a star trek convention shows that the person wearing it is a big fan.  In image you can see the imagination in paper rather then reading and imagining everything in your head. The image and word does express the same thing becasue we can read what the author is saying and seeing the point that he is trying to make in pictures.

Example #1

Finally they picked him up and took him to the vet. We were told that someone had fed him ground beef with broken glass in it which cause tearing in the large intestine and bleed to death. I was in a state of shock. My dad became indignant and wanted to find out who did it.That night around two o clock in the morning we woke to voices and noise. My dad came into my room because he wanted to see out from my bedroom window to view my neighbors house. He saw a group of people doing drugs and literaly minutes later the cops showed up. We don't know what happened that night but my parents and I are under the impression that my neighbor was maybe the one that feed Wilson the ground beef with glass in order to shut him up from barking.

Part #2

The idea in adjusting your tone is to engage your readers in what the story is about. It gives it more flavor verses just writing a plain sentence.

The idea that expresses using image is when you dress or speak a certain way. It represents you as person, and that is the way people will come across .

Paragraph 1 (Original):  “Have you ever had a boyfriend Desi?” In 7th grade I never thought of having a relationship with a boy or even a person. Being asked this in a classroom full of people I don’t know made me realize two things: One, I came to the realization that I have never been interested nor have I wanted to date anyone. Period. Two, I really dislike being put on the spot with something so tedious and unimportant. But, I’m a pushover and didn’t know how to speak up so, “Nah” came out of my mouth. They all looked around like I said the Lords name in vain. I just shrugged and continued doing my work. “Well, we’ll get you a boyfriend this year.” Oh no, my worst nightmare. Interacting with a male human on an intimate level not only made me anxious but I felt like I would punch them after a few hours. So, I had to reply quick, “No, no. I’m fine. Really. I’M fine!” They just looked at me and looked away. I felt like I saw a text message get read, but with no reply. Alright this won’t be bad, I guess. A few days later, they came to me with this guy that looks like a burnt peanut, atop a larger burnt peanut. I, of course, refused, but with little confidence in my voice, I was never truly heard. So, I dated him. Because I am a pushover. I dated him. I didn’t even like him, why did he like me? I was dressed completely like a boy; I had straight back corn-rolls, a tie, a vest, baggy pants and I still had no idea I was gay. Shame. You can say, there was tale-tell signs, I played basketball with the “bros” all the time, I played flag football (aggressively), I never had boy crushes I just lied 99.9% of the time. I had the same “crush” from second grade all the way to sixth, I had to switch it up to another guy because everyone was getting slightly suspicious. But, I still had no clue, until, and this going to sound completely outrageous, but it’s true. I had a dream, of me being in a relationship with the same sex and when I woke up I realized the reason why I couldn’t connect with my “boyfriend” at all. I told no-one for about 6 months. At that same time my “boyfriend” wanted to have our first kiss… Again, I was the face and head speaker for passive aggressive and pushover people. I broke up with him right after the kiss. Reason? I felt nothing and his breath was hotter than the dragons from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Part 2: Writing Identities
In the scene "What's My Identity?", it gives a great example how resume's can require your own voice, not just a "professional" voice. The text shows how you have to "sell yourself" for the position you are position. Any activities that you've done in that field, paid or unpaid, can be seen as experience. The images used give a comedic affect to the concepts. They use flashback images to show how simplistic but helpful some of prior experiences can be. The text and imagery go hand in hand with giving emphasis and helps you understand the topic at hand.
