Boyfriend:
- Who is the most influential person in your life and why? "That would be my grandmother. She has been through a lot of hardships similar to mine so I can relate to her on a different level. She has always been someone I could talk to or go to for advice. She will always be up front with me. I know she truly cares about my well being."
- What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought. "My Uncle tricked my elderly grandmother into co-signing a brand new vehicle for him. She felt ambushed and obligated to do something she really didn't want to. To add to the situation he then stole jewelry form her home. It was at this point that made me rethink other people's family values and my own. Just because someone my be your family does not mean they will treat you with the respect that you deserve. Family is supposed respect and love one another unconditionally but I cannot feel that way towards someone that hurts the ones I love, even if they are my so called family."
- What or who is the most important thing in your life and why? "My grandparents. They took me in at six months old and raised me. They essentially saved my life. Basically they raised me as their own son. They were both sick and older when they took me in when no one else wanted me, that is something I could never repay them for. In return I feel it's my job to look out for them as they get older. With all of my life decisions I take them into consideration."
Sister:
1. Who is the most influential person in your life and why?
"It was my grandmother because she was the one that raised me. My grandmother taught me right from wrong. She taught me how to respect others and respect myself. I learned to live day by day and not to worry about the future too much, which was something that I have always applied in my life. I always felt love from her no matter what, even when I was in trouble. I will always admire her."
2. What is the last thing you read, heard, saw or encountered that made you reconsider your values or beliefs? Describe that moment and what you thought.
"The one thing that has impacted me as of recent is how politically corrupt our country is. Since the new elections are just around the corner, I have become more aware of how uninformed I am. I am always the first to complain but the last to take action. I am not happy with our healthcare, educations system, environmental choices, and the amount of discrimination in our country. I am trying to get more involved and do my research, that way I would be one more person that can help make the proper change we need."
3. What or who is the most important thing in your life and why?
"My husband, Marcelo, is the most important person in my life. He is my best friend, the person I do everything with. In the ten years of being together, we have learned to grow separately and as a couple. Together we built our careers and home. We have taught and continue to teach each other many things. Whenever I feel stressed I can look at him and immediately feel a sense of relief. The connection we have is something to cherish. I can't say it is a perfect relationship but, to me my husband is my home."
