Uncle:

1. The most influential person in my life is my husband.  He is influential because he is my partner in life and he is also my center, my conscience, my touchstone. As I deal with work and it's pressures, the bills, family, he is the one person who knows me. The good stuff, the bad stuff and all in between and it is okay. As we talk over our lives, he is the one I turn to for advice, look to for inspiration and measure my successes and failures.

2. Watching the last republican presidential debate was the last time I really thought over my values and beliefs.  Watching the candidates talk about immigration, LGBT rights, the American place in the world and their positions on the country made me more sure of my values and beliefs.  I was hurt that those seeking the presidency would passionately describe a stronger America that will only be so by taking away my marriage.  That their God demands my pain.  They advocate removing hard working people (that don’t look like them) that want a better life and take away healthcare from those that did not have it before.  I realized that I must not move away from this political season and must work to see that their vision does not become the future.

3. As I have aged, it has become clear that the most important thing in my life is my family.  Not ambition, not wealth, but family.  I am blessed to have all my immediate family close to me.  This became very clear with the passing of my mother.  My husband, my son, his wife, our two grandchildren, my sister and my nieces.  They are the center of my life and it's purpose.  Work is important and I love mine, but the joy in seeing my nieces grow up and become beautiful, interesting and strong women, seeing my son be a father to his daughters, spending time building a sandcastle on the beach with my grand daughter and spending time on the couch with my husband and our crazy dogs laughing at a silly TV show is the best part of my life.

Mom:

1. Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing, has been an influential person in my life. She had a big influence and impact in my choices of my career path and I would not be where I am today, as a registered nurse, if it weren't for her. Florence made nursing a profession by establishing the first nursing school, helped reform healthcare, helped abolish prostitution laws, and also helped expand the work force for women.

2. In 2008, my daughters and I were over at my mom's house watching the election between Barack Obama and John McCain. It was incredible witnessing the election of the first African American president, seeing how far we have come and being a part of history!

3. My small family may be loud and annoying at times, but I wouldn't be who I am without any of them.
