Music Album Research

Part 1: Rhetorical Situation

  1. Based on your album, find the following information (use at least 2 different sources to gather your information-  don't count wikipedia as one.  Use that as a starting point).  Take extensive notes here.  Use this as a brainstorming and research tool to get as much info related to your album as possible.
    1. Context
      1. think when, where, who
    2. Purpose
      1. this is tied into the theme of the album
      2. why was it made, what points/ideas/messages is it meant to give
    3. Audience
      1. intended audience
      2. unintended audience
      3. audience demographics, etc.
    4. Genre
      1. what genre or genres of music is the artist associated with?
      2. find one article online that speaks to the history of the genre of music you are focusing on.  Use the article to help you understand the genre and where it comes from.
        1. Search engines: google scholar, library database

Part 2:  Album Research Information

  1. In your personal portfolio, create a folder titled "album research."  In this folder you will create two documents
    1. Document #1: Album Lyrics
      1. Here you will find, copy and then paste the lyrics to every song.  Include a cover page that details the album title and the title of all the songs on the album.
      2. Here you can take notes on your lyrics/album for your research
    2. Document #2:  Related Information & Links
      1. Here you will upload and include links and information based on your artist and album.  To start, find at least one interview your artist has done and include it in here.  Watch the video and take some notes on key points that are mentioned.
      2. All the articles, interviews, videos, readings, etc. related to this project you want to keep track of in this document.  Include links to the sources you used to find out the rhetorical situation of your album.
