This video/TV show I watched was a gang in Los Angeles called "Avenues." This gang started of around the zoot-suit era, where a bunch of hispanics made a group to defend themselves. The gang got more violent when drugs came into the city and gang members from different areas try to fight over territory. J.R., a former member of the Avenues, talks about his first murder. After the Avenues heard about what he did they immediately wanted him in. The Avenues were well protect for the drugs and territory. Older members that went to jail joined up with an even bigger gang call "Mexican Mafia" or "La eMe." This is when La eMe taxed the gangs in the area and if you did not have their money they will either beat you or kill you. The Avenues were always ready to kill and on September 17, 1995, a family took a wrong turn and was surrounded by the Avenues. The Avenues shot the car injuring most of the people in the car and killing a young girl. This incident prompted the former president, Bill Clinton, to take action on what happen. He order a huge raid on the avenues and arrest many. J.R. had left the gang to be with his family, he got tired of always looking behind his back, but that caused a "hit on his head," which means he was wanted by the gang to be killed because the felt betrayed.

I can use this reference on my presentation by comparing it with the gangs over here in my area. Most gang are connected together and still fight for territory. The gave examples on how people gain respected and what they would do for their gang. Also, how gang sometimes influence young people to join because they see the older gang members as role models and family members will influence them by bringing all the gang violence into their homes.

I watched a documentary called I am Jazz. The documentary was about a 11 year old  transgender girl named Jazz. The documentary talks about Jazz's transition since she was little too the age 11. It all started on her 5th birthday when her mom allowed her to wear a girl bathing suit to her party. Since then Jazz started dressing like a girl and started being called Jazz. Jazz has full support from her family. Her family is fully supportive of Jazz's transition. But even though her family was supportive, many people aren't as supportive as her family. But even though jazz faced some problems her family was always by her side. One of Jazz's problems faced was not being able to play with an all girls soccer team. The soccer association was afraid she will "hurt" someone. Even though her parents received many declines to their request to let her play, they kept fighting for her to be treated equally. Eventually, they allowed her due to a email her father sent. Also, they talk about her growing up, and her hitting puberty. Jazz has the option to block puberty, or go through puberty and just go with the changes. But jazz is almost positive she wants to block puberty completely. She can't stand the idea of getting a deep voice or growing hair. Jazz's parents support any decision Jazz decides to do. Also, in the document it shows when jazz and her mom go to a panel, amongst Jazz and her mom there are other trans men and women. During the panel Jazz starts to notice most of the panel had a hard time transitioning. They faced violencediscrimination, and no support. Jazz's really realizes she has an amazing support from her family and friends, and that everyone may not have that.
I think this documentary may be useful  for my presentation. I feel it showed the difference between a person having support through their transition, and someone who did not have any support at all. I feel like this document really shows how not having support or acceptance, may bring problems to a person during their time of their transitioning journey. I feel like if more people were supportive of the trans community, or at least not see them differently the transgender community wouldn’t face so much physicalmental abuse. We are all equal and should not belittle people for something they cannot change.

issue: Birth control

The article that I real is named "Teen pregnancy". It talks about teen pregnancy and how it is becoming a common problem around The United States. It provides that main three reason of why teenagers now a days are getting pregnant. The articles states that teen pregnancy main causes are: inappropriate use of birth control, misinformation and peer pressure. According to this article pregnancy at such a young age does affects everyone around it; for example, teenagers are most likely to drop out from school which limits them from a better future. Their children are force to live into financial limitations.

After reading this article. I could link the information that i found to my issue which is birth control. since teenagers are not fully educated about birth control- this article provides one of the consequences of not  using birth control. Although this article mainly focus on teen pregnancy it could be  use as good information about the cons of not using birth control.

I watched a TED talk titled, 'The Fight Against Sex Slavery' and the speaker was Sunitha Krishan. Sunitha Krishan is an anti-human trafficking activist and she has dedicated her life to helping women and children in places like India, escape the darkness that is being sold for sex labor. She began her presentation by talking about three little boys who she rescued recently and how all of those boys who were no more than 4 years old, were sold into sex slavery because their parents were broke and desperate. Near the end of her presentation she tells us that all three of those boys had died already from HIV. In her speech she talked about her own experience being gang raped at 15 years old and how she never felt like a victim, all she ever felt and still felt 35 years later, was anger and that has motivated her to help other people in the same sort of situation. She gives a very powerful and fully uncensored presentation about what the women who are brought up as sex slaves, what these women end up going through, like the STD's as well as thinking this is what they deserve or are meant for in this world.

I could use this TED talk in my presentation because it gives a lot of insight into what people are thinking when forced to work for sex and even what kind of parent sells their child to this kind of business. These acts are out of true desperation and those who did not have a choice should not be left to feel like they deserve to be in that mess. Krishan also speaks of how people in their everyday world can help. It starts by the way one treats a person who has been through a hell like that, we should not make them feel judged or ashamed because it is not their fault. These women need to feel acceptance, into the community and they need to be given opportunities to turn that pain from being a sex slave into power, power of being free.
Social Issue: Homeless
I watched a short video on YouTube of an artist named Matt C. Ellis talking about his Homeless Project. When he lived in Miami he became friends with many of the homeless people in which one of them was an artist as well. He then decided to make some murals of the faces of homeless people to bring awareness. He also did it to make people stop, think, and question their life. Everyone lives in a materialistic world rather than what we truly need. Matt wants to capture these raw faces (those of the homeless people) to show their true beauty compared to how people ideally see someone who puts so much makeup for a photo shoot as beautiful. This is just one of Matt's projects; he does not only do paintings, he also does print paintings and tattoos.

I can use this source for my presentation in many different ways. For one, I can use some of his art pieces to put in my PowerPoint. Matt himself is talking in the video so if I do use him I get statements and thoughts of his own; he says why he is doing this project giving straight facts. I can also take in some notes of what he stated to help with my proposal or just open up my thoughts of this social issue. The last thing I can do is cut up some parts of the video and add it as background sound of the presentation. Overall this video suits this project because he is an artist so I can just use his pieces or just take in his insight of the situation as an artist to help me come up with my own pieces.

http://www.latimes.com/local/political/la-me-pc-gov-browns-signs-laws-to-crack-down-on-human-trafficking-20140928-story.html

In the article, “Gov. Brown signs laws to crack down on human trafficking,” by Patrick McGreev, he is addressing the constant issue with human trafficking. It seems to be that California, New york, and Texas are the three states with the most human trafficking activity. The article is discussing the laws signed by Government Brown that are there to protect everyone. Some of the laws signed off by Government Brown include: the Mitchell bill that allows sex prevention education in California’s public schools, the authority for courts to authorize wiretaps for investigation of human trafficking, and also fines will be increased to those who partake in any human trafficking that includes minors. The article is mainly based on things that have been implemented to stop human trafficking.

I could use this as a part of my presentation to show awareness of the issue. The article list California as one of the primary places for human trafficking in the United States and I think that itself will spark interest amongst others being that this is the state they are living in. I think often people think human trafficking does not exist because it is not always on our news channel everyday but this clearly shows that human trafficking still exists. This also shows that we do have protection against these kind of things. All in all, what I think this article can do is spread awareness and make it known that this is very important and it is an ongoing issue.

I found an article in the New York Times that's called Short Answers to Hard Questions About Climate Change. I saw and read that the article had 16 questions about how bad climate change really is and they give answers to the most complicated questions someone would ask about climate. They even explain what would be the worst case scenario if climate change continues on the path the way it is today. The article also goes on about explaining what people believe climate change is real and who does not believe that climate change is real. Also the article explains if really carbon is the main reason that climate change is happening and it explains that carbon is not the only things that is causing climate change.

I can use this article for my proposal because it provides so solid facts about climate change. The article explains in details the things that are causing climate change and if there are multiple things causing it. Also this article is up to date because it was from last year in November so the things that it is talking about are not out of date but are up to date. This is not a short article so this also has tons of facts in it so if I don't like something I can choose something else from the article to back up my presentation/proposal. This article would also help me with the presentation because it has some good visuals to back up my claim about climate change.

The article that I read is called 'Alcohol Driving'. It is an article filled with facts about what can happen when you drink and drive, whats a BAC and what affects it, and what happens to you mentally when you are drinking and driving. I now know that every two minutes someone is injured by a drunk driver.  The article then tells you what a BAC is and also tells you that alcohol is quickly absorbed and can be measured within 30 to 70 minutes after a drink. It also has information about how your BAC can be affected by the number of drinks, how fast you drink, your gender, your weight, and also if you have food in your stomach. It even has ways to reduce your BAC. The article lists everything that happens to you when you are the drunk driver. It talks about your Reaction Time, Vision, Poor Judgment, Comprehension, Coordination, and False sense of confidence. It then ends it all off with solutions to this problem. Designated drivers, Public transportation, Prior arrangements to stay overnight, and Calling someone to pick you up are all ways to prevent drunk driving.

Now that I have read the article, I now know more than I did about drinking and driving and now I can back myself up by these facts and many more. I can use this article on my presentation and my proposal because these facts are helpful things to know about drunk driving and everyone should know them.

I found an article on BBC that was from the perspective of a victim of child abuse in India. She describes her feelings of confusion and how this issue isn't being in handled in India. Most of the abusers are the family members who go with no questioning or repercussion. She touches basis on abuse going on through most family members her age and how there is just an overall silence. When you silence an issue it becomes a normalcy and it has.

I can use this information to build a strong case on why there isn't a strong presence in media and support for the children out in India. Plenty of the children make the clothes, shoes, accessories and small day to day objects we use. Many people need to bring to light the horrendous treatment of the children or there will be no future. Children are our future, not just in America.

i watched a short film on YouTube titled "stop bullying". this short video broke down what bullying really is, where it mostly takes place and what you could do to stop or prevent it. Bullying effects all of us equally. and as a society if we don't put an end to it it'll continue to plague us.

this video would be useful for my research presentation because it is an excellent example of the problems that many of our youth tend go through on the daily. also providing better resources for our youth  to come forward about these problems would be helpful.

The video that I watched was called 'I am a survivor of rape.' There was four women with their own rape story. One of them was raped by her boyfriend and was made to believe it was not really rape because they were dating. All women were raped by someone they knew and trusted. They were made to believe it was their fault and had "asked" for it. They also talk about how many people pointed fingers at them and never bothered to think that it was the guy who was to blame. One of them felt disgust whenever some guy would try and dance with her. Another one said she started to have a lot of sex but with who she wanted to have it with. Having a lot of sex or not wanting to have a sex is common thing to see after someone who was raped. When they try to talk about it with their friends they would all mostly dismiss it or tell them to get over it. One of the girls was well helped by talking to a therapist who made her realize it wasn't her fault and that indeed she was raped. They all want to tell their story to help people become aware of this issue that people just ignore.

With this video I can use for both my presentation and proposal. I can show parts of the clip where they talk about how everyone told them it was their fault. It will show how anyone can rape you no matter if they're a complete stranger or someone you completely trust. No matter what the situation is when someone says "no" it means no. I can also use it for my proposal because one of the girls said having a therapist to talk to really helped her deal with this experience. I can propose to provide a therapist or someone with the right education to help these victims. The victims will have someone to talk to, someone to hear them out and not judge them. Through this help they will realize that they are not alone, it wasn't their fault, and they will get through it.

Auditory Hallucinations - An Audio Representation

Imagine the fear of having someone watch your every move. Imagine the confusion of thoughts that are running through your mind not letting up, even as you sleep. Imagine hearing whispers. You hear them, the voices are real to you; however, your told that these "voices and whispers" are hallucinations.
9.3 million Americans experience serious mental illness, where it impedes on their day to day activities. Most of these will never seek treatment due to being labeled as "crazy, insane or weird."
I want to use this video to show what its like to walk a day in a mentally ill persons shoes. I want to educate that mental illness is a disorder, a chemical imbalance in the brain, and not a jail or stigma sentence. It is a condition that requires empathy, tolerance and love.

Part 1: Social Issue

Violence against transgender community.

http://faculty.mu.edu.sa/public/uploads/1425310920.5389violence%20transgender.pdf

Violence against transgender people: A review of United States data.

Rebecca L. Stotzer

This article talks about the challenges transgender people face throughout their life, and the three ways this data is found. Self-report surveys, hotline calls and social service reports, and police reports are the possible sources of information about violence towards the transgender community. The Self-report surveys showed how many transgender people been victims of rape.  Surveys showed about 50% transgender people reported unwanted sexual activity. Studies have also shown that trans people suffer sexual violence as early teens. Often times these hate crimes are committed out of hatred or not accepting of transgender people. Also, studies found that most times these crimes are done by people within their own household or relatives. These crimes aren't always reported to police, or even voiced by the victims. This really limits the collection of data of the amount of crimes done to transgender victims. Transgender people don’t only suffer from sexual crimes, but also violent crimes. Trans people report being verbally and physically abused, bullied, and beat down. In order for effective laws and policies to be enforced, these sources need to be addressed for improvement, and  bring hate crimes against transgender community forward. These data sources need to improve in order to help the transgender community.

Part 2: Finding an Organization

National Center for Transgender Equality.

The National Center for Transgender Equality is the nation’s leading social justice advocacy organization winning life-saving change for transgender people. It was founded by a transgender activist in 2003. It is completed by a board of directors, a volunteer staff of one, and a donated office space.  This organization is devoted to ending discrimination and violence against transgender people through education and advocacy on national issues of importance to transgender people. "By empowering transgender people and our allies to educate and influence policymakers and others."
The National Center for Transgender Equality is a non-profit social equality organization.
