Progressive Rock and the Inversion of Musical Values
John J. Sheinabuam published 2002 pg. 21
Progressive Rock musicians were seen as "war criminals." Critics responded poorly to the 1970's progressive rock bands usually reacting against "the style stemmed countercultural political agenda." progressive rock was seen to have betrayed the "authenticity of rock music for a more "artistic" value. Rock was supposed to be about rebellion "a music that shocks the environment," where as progressive rock is fantasized and poetic lyrics are not targeting the normal rock listeners. In other words "Rock lyrics are not poetic."
